Tremellius, John Immanuel
(1510-80)
   Italian Hebraist. He was born in Ferrara. He became a Catholic, then a year later converted to Protestantism. In 1542 he was appointed professor of Hebrew at the University of Strasbourg. He moved to England, where he was King's Reader in Hebrew at the University of Cambridge, and then to Germany to take the position of professor of Old Testament at the University of Heidelberg. He published a Latin translation of the Bible from Hebrew and Syriac.
